Our Mission
To mobilize women to act boldly on their faith in Jesus Christ.
Our Purpose Statement
“As a community of women created in the image of God, called to discipleship in Jesus Christ, and empowered by the Holy Spirit, we commit ourselves to grow in faith, affirm our gifts, support one another in our callings, engage in ministry and action, and promote healing and wholeness in the church, the society, and the world.”
What Does Our Logo Mean?
Our logo—with the cross, water and a white lily—identifies women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America as children of God; baptized, forgiven, adopted into God’s family, full of grace and hope in eternal life. It is a reminder of the growth, beauty, and vitality that rises out of that life-giving baptismal water. It is also a reminder of the mission of the church to “Go, therefore, make disciples of all nations; baptize them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” (Matthew 28:19).
Living Our Faith
Faith Women are dedicated to living out our faith through service, study and education, advocacy, worship and fellowship.
Our service projects that we organize every year
- We gather items for the Lutheran World Relief Personal Care Kits. These kits are then assembled and sent off to Lutheran World Relief in the fall.
- We create Lutheran World Relief Mission Quilts for distribution in places that have suffered natural disasters or displacement due to war. These are also sent out in the fall.
- In January we organize a S.O.A.P. (Save Our Adolescents from Prostitution) labeling event. January is Human Trafficking Awareness month.
Our worship services
- We organize a Thankoffering service every November. At this service, led by the women of Faith, we collect “In Kind” donations which in the past have benefited such organizations as Interchurch, Dan Emmett Elementary School, Sanctuary Community Action of Eastern Knox County, Salvation Army, Faith Lutheran Christian Preschool, and Winter Sanctuary. We also collect a “noisy offering” by emptying the change that women have collected during the year into a metal kettle. The change is sent to the Women of the ELCA annually for the ministries and mission of our women’s organization.
- We also celebrate the World Day of Prayer in the winter. The origins of this day date back to the 19th century when Christian women of the U.S. and Canada initiated a variety of cooperative activities in support of mission work.
- Bold Women’s Sunday celebrates all Lutheran women who have acted boldly on their faith in Jesus Christ. The women of the church conduct the entire service.
Our study and education opportunities
- Mary Martha Circle meets for Bible study and fellowship the 2nd Tuesday of the month at 1pm at the church. The Gather magazine is used for the study.
- Jesus Calling meets the first Monday of the month at 11am at the church. We pack a lunch and enjoy fellowship after our study. The group determines which book they would like to read and discuss next. We read and discuss a chapter for each monthly meeting.
- The Hannah Browning Fund supports learning opportunities for women and girls of all ages. Past support includes funding music, dance and martial arts lessons, college expenses, tools for work, camp and school trips.
Our organizational meetings
- The Faith Women’s board meets monthly to plan for our activities
- There are 2 general meetings each year. The first is in September with the purpose of electing the board members The December meeting is a Christmas luncheon.
